Sam moved his family from Missouri to SE Alaska in the 1950's. His fishing career started in 1955 when he purchased the F/V Tommy in Edna Bay, Alaska while living and working at a logging camp and running the fishing grounds on the weekends, doing all he could to provide for his family.
Sam's favorite saying was, "it's a bleak day at black rock", which meant fishing was lousy in Warren Channel. Sam trolled for many years aboard the F/V Sea Queen on his favorite grounds from Cape Pole to Warren Island. Sam was not just an oil man and fisherman, but also an active community member and volunteer.
Samuel Raymond Privett was a veteran of WWII. He received 3 bronze stars and a purple heart for being wounded. His division was the first US Troop to occupy Japan.
Sam is gone, but will never be forgotten by those who loved him.
